Spring Concert 2022

On Saturday 26th March the Band hosted its first concert for 27 months although it was by no means a certainty we were going go ahead as we had four players absent with illness however. After a quick change in the programme we did decide to play and we were so glad we did.

We started the concert in a traditional way with the March‘The C.I.V’ then onto our first solo of the evening by our soprano cornet John Noel who played the beautiful  and melancholic ‘La Califfe’ by Ennio Morricone. ‘Skimbleshankes’ from the musical Cats was a short but sweet delight was next then onto our second solo the wonderful ‘Concerto de Aranjeuz’ by Rodrigo a real Band favourite played beautifully by our flugel player Laura Gratwohl. We finished the first half with the showstopper  ‘I will Follow him’ from the film Sister Act.

The B Band were on next to play. We are so proud of our B Band and their conductor Mikaela Barwick which is made up of young and not so young players of all abilities and experiences. The Band played a varied programme consisting of music from The Carnival of the Animals and the crowd pleasers ‘In the Mood’ and ‘Minnie the Moocher’.

After the raffle draw and refreshments the band kicked off the second half with the classic ‘March of the Cobblers’ then onto our third solo the beautiful Neil Sedaka ballad ‘Solitaire’played by Principle cornet Mik Barwick. ‘Is this the way to Amarillo’ was next followed by our finale the Morecombe and Wise signature tune ‘Bring me Sunshine.

A massive well done to Val, Dave, Eugene and Della who represented their sections on their own and to our three new third cornet players Kiera, Martha and Aneshe who were playing in their first senior band concert.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Concert, it was lovely to see so many friends an supporters as well as lots of new faces we hope to see you all again very soon.

Profits from the concert were donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee to help those in need from Ukraine.
